Growing MindsPediatric Therapy

How It Works

Starting therapy can feel like a lot. Here’s what to expect, step by step, with you beside us the whole way.

  1. Screening

A short, friendly visit (about 15–20 minutes) where you share your worries and we spend time playing with your child. We’ll tell you honestly whether an evaluation or therapy would help, and what a good next step might be.

  2. Evaluation

If we both feel it’s a good next step, we take a closer look (about 60 minutes) at your child’s strengths and needs through play, observation and a conversation with you. You’ll get a clear explanation in plain language, not a pile of jargon.

  3. Personalized plan

Together we set goals that matter to your family, and we recommend which services, and how often, would help most. Every plan is built around your child, and you’re part of every decision.

  4. Ongoing therapy with progress updates

Regular play-based sessions, with updates along the way so you always know how your child is doing. We celebrate wins, adjust the plan as your child grows, and keep you in the loop.

What to expect

Session length

  • Speech therapy: typically 30 minutes
  • Occupational therapy: typically 45 minutes to an hour

We’ll find the rhythm that feels right for your child’s age, attention and goals.

Parent involvement

You know your child best, so you’re a true partner. Parents are welcome in sessions, we explain what we’re doing and why, and we coach you on strategies you can use with confidence. Older children and teens may have more independent time, and we’ll talk through what works best.

Home practice

Progress grows fastest when skills are used every day. We’ll share a few simple, realistic ideas that fit into routines like mealtimes, bath time and bedtime stories, never a long to-do list and never a source of stress.

Payment & insurance

We believe you should know what to expect before you begin, so here’s how payment and insurance work at Growing Minds.

Insurance

We are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, Aetna and MedCost. If we’re out of network with your plan, we’ll submit claims on your behalf, and we’re happy to provide documentation whenever you request it.

Every insurance company is different, and speech-language and occupational therapy may or may not be a covered benefit under your plan, so we encourage you to check your coverage before your first visit.

Ways to pay

We accept cash, Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards, and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover).

We’re glad to answer your questions about fees and coverage before you begin.

Questions? Just ask

Coverage can be confusing, and we’re glad to talk it through. Reach out before you book and we’ll help you understand your options and the next steps.
